Pittsburgh’s Advanced Industries Contributed Billions to the Economy in 2013

According to the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program, Pittsburgh’s advanced industries had a big impact on the economy in 2013.

Pittsburgh’s output contributed about $18.2 billion to the economy, placing it number 26 out of the 100 largest metro areas in the United States.

More than 100,000 people were employed in Pittsburgh by these advanced industries – 50 R&D-and STEM-worker-intensive manufacturing, energy and service industries ranging from aerospace and automotive to energy generation, computer software and biotech.
